Large free art gallery in a beautiful setting. You can walk to or from Stockbridge along the water of Leith and take in a bit of nature along the way. Modern Two is just across the road, usually with a paid exhibition on.
Children love the landscaped area around the ponds. It is visually stunning. The Antony Gormley statue at the front entrance is a fun photo opportunity. Some exhibitions require payment but most of the building is free to view. Great cafe - especially on a good day when you can sit outside…
You can walk here along the Water of Leith, worth a visit just to see the amazing garden. You will need to book ahead due to Covid.
15 minutes walk from the centre, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is in 2 buildings - Modern Art 1 & 2. Great Art collection & Gallery cafes.
Very nice gallery collection - upstairs is the permanent collection and the ground floor hosts temporary exhibitions. Cafe in the basement is worth a visit.

“Arthur Seat is an ancient volcano which is the peak of a group of hills in Edinburgh. If you can manage the 30 minute hike to the top (it is relatively easy), you will experience some of the best views over Edinburgh and its surrounding areas. You can take the direct route up the hill or there is an easier route which takes you around the side in a loop. ”

“Beautifully kept gardens, you can enjoy most of it for free and pay to visit the glass houses. They also put on light shows at Christmas time. You need to book tickets for the light show but it's worth seeing.”
