Almaden's Quicksilver County Park is rich in local San Jose history. The trail offers up maps that outline the historic landmarks along the numerous hiking paths in the 4,163 acres available to explore. This plot of land was home to San Jose's famous mercury mines and was instrumental in boosting the economy back in the 1800's. The mines were highly important during the California Gold Rush, since mercury was used to extract gold from ore. I've hiked these trails personally a dozens of times over since my childhood and can't get enough of it!
