A masterpiece of sculpture, painting and crafts is gathered, centering on Buddhist art, and numerous valuable cultural assets indispensable for research and appreciation of Buddhist art are displayed. It consists of main building and east and west new building, main building was modern Western-style building built in the Meiji era and is designated as a heavy sentence. There is also a special exhibition in spring and autumn, Shosoin honorary exhibition is in autumn. In addition, the annex building was the former imperial museum era (1895), an important tangible cultural asset designated by the country.
