It is the oldest Botanical Garden named as Lloyd Botanical Garden with varieties of flora and is famous for two living fossils. It is located just below the Eden Sanatorium(Saheed Durga Mall District Hospital) on an open slope covering an area of about 40 acres. Lloyd Botanical Garden is open seven days a week. A camera, a small note book for a botany enthusiast and a couple of hours to spare, is a must.

Lloyd Botanical Garden, named after the donor William Lloyd, was established in 1878. The garden occupies the area more or less 40 acres. It lies just below the heart of the town approximately 15 Mt walk. previously a lot of botanical students from different parts of India used to be brought over here for research and educational tour. In a nutshell it is a heaven for the botanists. It is a peaceful area with a glass house for flowers and plants. One can escape the hustle bustle of the city in no time. There is a living fossil ( plant). Tourists enjoy taking photos , surrounded by flowers, greenery and calm and peaceful environment in the lap of Nature with chirping of birds, butterflies hovering over the flowers. Children also love to run and play with a lot of excitement since there is no fear of vehicles plying here and there. Unluckily these days this place is not mentioned in Darjeeling sightseeing because of parking problem. So many tourists miss this place. I really feel sorry for them. Ticket for the entrance cost Rs. 20/- at present.

The Botanical garden in Darjeeling is named after William Lloyd who was the owner of the Lloyd's bank during the British India days. he gave as a gift this sprawling 40 acres of area on an open hill slope for making the best gardens in Asia. The land was handed over to Sir Ashley Eden and the garden was established in 1878.Eden was then the secretary to the Government of Bengal. There is a hospital Eden Sanatorium located just above the garden which is named after him.
