The city-walls built by the Lusignans and were originally high and thin. The Venetians fortified the walls against artillery fire particularly to protect themselves from the Ottomans.

A day trip in Famagusta. Visit the old walled city, Othello castle (after which Shakespeare's play took its name), the Ghost city, and Salamis ancient city. Suggested place for lunch: The Palm House.
