Hozenji Temple is a very small is a Buddhist temple, that was established in 1637 and which enshrines Mizukakefudo. This temple feels very out of place in the modern Dotonbori with all its modern commercial lighting, so it is great to see that it has survived all this time. Hozenji Temple features a statue that is completely covered by moss which continues to thrive through people watering it when making a prayer.

Situated a stone’s throw from the bustling shopping district of Dotonbori is Hozenji Yokocho, an alleyway preserved in the style of 17th-19th century Imperial Japan. Step back in history to the Edo period by visiting this historical alley, which is filled with restaurants serving Japanese fare, and izakayas (traditional Japanese taverns). Also in Hozenji Yokocho is the statue of the spirit Fudomyoo, its moss-covered appearance is the result of visitors pouring water over it as a cleansing act.

One of my favourite hidden places in Namba. Its a little tricky to find but I am sure google maps will help you! Otherwise just contact me and I will gladly tell you how to get there. I recommend you to go there by night, since the atmosphere is totally diffrent during night. If youre lucky you can even witness a buddhism ritual or spot some of the cute cats that live there. One of my sure recommendations to check out!
