Founded in 1842, it is the oldest research foundation in Greece. The donor was the Baron Georgios Sinas, ambassador in Vienna. The building is fantastic and overlooks the whole area of the ancient city of Athens. There are guided tours at nights and the ticket is cheap. You can also see planets of our solar system through a historic telescope in the nearby dome. An excellent opportunity to learn about the universe. Highly recommended!.

It was built in 1902 and it was used for the first time at the eclipse of the sun on 30th August,1905. Tours are taking place for 1.30min at cost of 5euros per person.

The Visitor Centre in Thissio is located at the historical area of the National Observatory on top of the hill of Nymphs, opposite the sacred rock of the Acropolis. It was founded in 1842 based on the plans of the Danish architect Τheophil Hansen. The visitors of the Centre have the ability to tour the Geoastrophysics Museum, the library and to see the large number of scientific instruments from the previous century. At the Centre there are tours for students or other organized groups, while it is worth watching one of the night tours that include a night observation with the Doridis telescope.

The Visitor Center is open to the general public during the evening at least four times a month. The evening tours consist of oral and video presentations, followed by a tour of the Newall telescope and observations, weather permitting.
