When we moved to our longing city of Munich over 30 years ago, we were surprised that the city died out on some weekends. Until we understood: Many Munich residents are deeply connected to nature and then populate the mountain peaks, huts and lakes. And it is no coincidence that the joke comes that Munich's southernmost district is Lake Garda - it is a classic weekend destination. The cozy man from Munich goes to the beer garden, takes the cable car up to the mountains, lounges at the many lakes and walks in mountain huts. The more active ones go deeper into the mountains to go hiking, climbing, racing biking, mountain biking, alpine or touring skis. Most unite the love for Italy, South Tyrol is a classic short vacation destination, and somehow Munich is always a variant of the Italian dolce vita.
