The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is a great spot for short, leisurely hikes in nature, or down to the lake. The center features some beautiful views, nature education and lake access via one of two short trails. I highly recommend checking out the The Stream Profile Chamber.
Families, trout creek has salmon spawning in October great place to walk and see the beautiful scenery
This is a secret gem that no one seems to know about. It’s operated by the Forest Service. It has some of the nicest (and easy) walking trails along the lake, through wetlands to the lake. Also, they diverted part of the creek and created an aquarium for visitors to see the fish that live in the area. It’s really cool and totally off the regular tourist path. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is located approximately 3 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on the lake side of Highway 89. The Visitor Center entrance is just past the entrance to the Tallac Historic Site and Fallen Leaf Lake Road

Educational and a must do - especially in early October when the Kokanee Salmon Spawn. Nice walk to the observation area.
