Opened in 2014 on the 30th anniversary of Shainman’s iconic New York City gallery, the expansive Hudson River Valley branch of the gallery is able to host massive shows. Its first exhibition featured the work of Nick Cave, and it’s also shown the large-scale work of boundary-breaking photographer Andres Serrano. Though it has regular hours, it’s also open by appointment. Don’t hesitate to call ahead to arrange something that’s convenient for you.

Kinderhook, NY - 38 mins drive from the lake house. I highly recommend it, this Gallery has stunning modern and contemporary art. Check opening days and hours online before you go (usually only open to the public on Saturdays).

Love this place...Takes about 90 minutes. The former Martin Van Buren Elementary School has been redesigned to include a 5,000 foot exhibition space with 24-foot ceilings, accompanied by traditional gallery spaces on the second floor that have been transformed from existing classrooms. The property sits on five acres of land that provide a temporary home for outdoor sculptural and site-specific installations. Its inaugural exhibition in 2014 was work by Nick Cave.

This important NYC gallery opened a rural outpost about 20 miles from Copake Lake. Exhibits change periodically so check what's on. The museum quality shows are free.
