Retreat to the homely warmth of a traditional Cornish Inn dating back to the 14th century; celebrate the heritage of an era bygone in charming, characterful surrounds with hearty food, an open fire and staggering views amidst wild coastal landscape. Ideally linked to a visit to the superb Church Cove at Gunwalloe.
The walk out past Loe Bar, along the cliff path to The Halzephron Inn is the perfect length to earn a few pints without being totally exhausting. Unfortunately there is no public transport so don't forget to stay sober enough for the walk back!
15th century pub close to Gunwalloe beach and a few other coves. The cove down the lane opposite the pub is more known by the locals (should be quieter but deemed unsafe for going in the sea). They have weekly quiz nights every Tuesday starting at 8.30pm
Helzephron is old Cornish meaning “Hells Cliff” and the Inn was built in 1468. Many local wrecks have provided the timbers in this Inn and the Bar counter is hundreds of years old. The menus change regularly to reflect the seasons, and the daily specials have plenty of local fish dishes. A variety of dining areas, from the cosy restaurant, main bar with log fire, to the outside patio areas with beautiful views of Mounts Bay, or to the beer garden with country view as far as the eye can see.
