Cades Cove
Cades Cove is very special to many. It’s a ‘must see’ to most visitors year after year no matter the season but is especially beautiful in Fall!
Be prepared for an all day trip, Eat a good breakfast, fill up with gas and grab a cooler with snacks & drinks.
Also handy are a first aid kit, Benadryl, an old blanket or fold up chairs.
Dress according to weather, dress in layers.
If you have kids bring along a few toys for the car to stay entertained for a car ride! I do recommend stashing electrics since this car ride is all about scenery & enjoying nature.
It takes about an hour to get there.
It’s 29.7 miles from Sugarlands Visitor Center but takes about an hour because you can’t go very fast!
Sit back relax & enjoy, there is plenty to see along the way!
Elkmont AKA “DaisyTown”, Met Calf Bottoms, The Sinks, waterfalls, & beautiful scenery.
It’s fun to play car games like guessing how many bear, deer, turkey, horses, etc that you think you might see! Keep your list handy & count to see how many you spot along the way.
Once you get to the Cove to your left is the Campground Store. Browse the store, get a ice cream & feel free to use their restrooms.
Upon entering the Cove you can get a map/book on the left.
First thing you will see is Mountains & horses. Take your time driving the loop. Get out to explore all the cabins, churches, barns, & cemeteries!
Hiking trails are along the way & there are many pull-off spots to take in the gorgeous mountain views.
Don’t take any short cuts as you will miss half of the Cove!
The Old Mill is about the the half way point. It has Restrooms & a general store!
Once ready for lunch get out your old blanket or chairs & put it on the grass for a picnic while taking in the beauty all around you. Mountains, streams & the sounds of nature are all around.. Try not to think about the traffic & how long it takes to get there….t’s so worth it. Everyone must go at least once to enjoy stepping back in time and soak up the meaning & history of such a miraculous place.
