Romsey Abbey is a parish church of the Church of England in Romsey, a market town in Hampshire, England. Until the dissolution it was the church of a Benedictine nunnery. It is now the largest parish church in the county. It’s home to a number of treasures, including two Saxon roods, a 16th-century reredos (a screen displayed behind an altar) and the tomb of the Lord Mountbatten of Burma, great-uncle of Prince Charles. Opening times Monday – Saturday 8am – 6pm (later opening on Tuesdays and Thursdays – open approx 8.45am). There are usually morning services at : 8am (Mon, Wed, Fri) and 9.15am (Tues, Sat) and 10am (Thurs) The Abbey closes after Evening Prayer (starts 5.30pm). Please avoid visiting during service times. Sunday 8am – 7.15pm (there are usually services at 8am, 10am, and 6.30pm, plus other additional services). The Abbey closes after Evensong. Please avoid visiting during service times. Guided tours We offer Weekly Wednesday Afternoon tours of Romsey Abbey at 3pm. A varied programme is offered from 3rd April to 30th October 2019. Guided tours for Groups can be arranged at a time/date to suit your Group and the availability of the Abbey. We’re also pleased to offer educational visits.
