Sylvan Lake is a lake located in Custer State Park, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, United States. It was created in 1881 when Theodore Reder built a dam across Sunday Gulch Creek. The lake area offers picnic places, rock climbing, small rental boats, swimming, and hiking trails.

Sylvan Lake is often referred to as the “crown jewel” of Custer State Park. It is a great place to have a picnic, go for a swim, or hit the trails.

This is the most beautiful lake of all the bodies of water in the Black Hills. Hike all the way around it. Enjoy the sparkling mica in the stone formations. Kayaking is allowed.

“Excellent dining. Very nice food that is not bar and grille food. Jamaican dishes as well as American. She has some food with some heat in it and the menu is constantly changing. This is a very good place. You will see me here A LOT. Friendly staff. No reservations. Look at her menu. Must have the carrot cake. ”

“A gorgeous little visitor center that talks about the mining history as well as the high-tech physics experiments that are now being conducted almost a mile underground. Great for kids and nerdy adults like me!”
