Everything at this pub in Marin is something you’d see in England, down to the window clasps. They have a big lawn where the dogs run and play while you hang out and drink. Or you can sit on the enclosed patio or by the fireplace. My favorite place to take dogs nearby is Marin Headlands. There are long, expansive fire trails that go into the hills. The views are stunning and dogs can roam off leash. The quiet, large open spaces give the dogs a wave of calm, especially my rescues and other nervous pups.

This Historic Inn built to capture England's 16th-century west coast style has the Tudor Bar, as well as heralded dining, and is available for overnight stays. Truly lovely. Check their website for information on private whole inn bookings, especially on weekends.

Historic Muir Beach is a hidden beach on the way to Stinson Beach. The Pelican Inn is a B&B with a restaurant and pub. Excellent local beers and wines, home comfort dining. Peaceful setting, no WiFi. Sit on the lawn and watch horses trot by.

This is on the way to Muir Woods. It's as if an English pub teleported to the California coast. Good food, cozy bar with dart boards and everything. Muir Beach, a lovely, less crowded beach is just a stone's throw away.
