The first weekend in June and the last weekend in September they offer a volksmarch up to the face of Crazy Horse. It’s an event not to miss. They light up the cravings most evenings in the summer.

Much more than Mt. Rushmore! This is a whole cultural center with multiple exhibits of Native Artifacts, a great book store, Native Dance Performances during tourist season, a good restaurant, and most importantly a small college for Lakota Youth. While you will rarely see Native Americans at Mt…

“Custer state park is our favorite area of the Hills. Visit Sylvan Lake, drive the wildlife loop, hike Black Elk peak or Cathedral Spires trails, drive the needles highway and dine at any of the historic lodges. Promise you will love this gem of a state park!”

“Great day trip from Lead. Be sure and take the hike around the monument if you have time. Look for the mountain climbers! Visit the little Prairie Dog Town on the way up.”

“Very cool cave offering tours. You are also very likely to see some buffalo while driving through the park. ”

“This is the largest active Mammoth site in the United States and a great treat for all the family. The introductory film is well done. Geologic specimens and panels before you even enter the enclosed site are very useful in understanding the Black Hills. Inside, you can walk through the site and the interior exhibits are also very informative. Did you know that there were two kinds of Mammoths in North America?”

“Just East of Sturgis. Hike our beautiful Bear Butte or "Mato Paha" as it's called by the Lakota and Sioux. Great hike but be prepared to get a good work out. No dogs allowed and small kids may need several breaks. A religious site and important landmark to the native tribes; you'll see dozens of prayer cloths as you climb. It truly is an awakening experience and the view from the top is absolutely incredible. ”
