Just 20 minutes by car from Villanueva, we find the Monastery of El Escorial, declared a World Heritage Site. It is the maximum representation of art, culture and power that maintained the Spanish empire throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Built in the time of Philip II to commemorate…
The heart of the Spanish Empire. A magnificent monastery made for the leisure and eternal rest of Philip II, saddled on the slopes of the Guadarrama range and surrounded by parks and forests. Just an hour train ride from the Sol station.
Its monastery is a UNESCO World heritage site and it has beautiful parks and a historic centre with lively bars & restaurants
Although not as famous as San Lorenzo, El Escorial has many good restaurants, cafés and bars. Take a scenic walk through El Parque del Principe to the train station for convenient access to Madrid.
