Mount Evans, along with Echo Lake is a designated historic site. Beautiful fourteener in the Front Range.
You can drive up the road and have a picnic up top or do the whole thing from the bottom. Glorious views.
The top of Mount Evans is a little over an hour and a half drive from Shawnee, and only about 45 minutes to the start of this scenic byway west of Evergreen, so it’s well worth the trip. It boasts the highest paved road in North America, which ascends almost 4,000 feet to the peak’s 14,264-foot…
My husband and I went Mt.Evans early in the morning at the end of August. Mt Evans is the highest paved road in North America. While you drive, you can see beautiful breathless scanery and various plants and flowers.
If you're in the mood for a day trip that leads to spectacular views, then Mount Evans won't disappoint! Be sure to do your research before you go, and note that the weather can get less predictable as the day goes on.

“I like the small town of Idaho Springs and the fact it has affordable hotels and unique places to eat all in a small radius. The Indian Hot springs are indoors so you can go no matter the weather. ”

“IDAHO SPRINGS: (<45min) Travelers love this place in the summer! Class 4 rapids are a comfortable event for almost everyone, and Class 5 rapids would be OK for even a first timer that's adventurous!”

“Historic gold mill in Idaho Springs. Pair this tour with lunch or dinner at Beau Jo's pizza in Idaho Spring and a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Great for kids and families.”

“If Shea is bartending, definitely sit at he bar and tell him Laura sent you. This place does not make the "favorite" list for food but does have a full menu. They definitely have a great selection of beers but also a full bar! ”
