Recently refurbished and extended. History on our doorstep. Portsmouth is key to the D-Day Story.
This is the story of D-Day , told through the personal accounts of people who were there and brought to life through stunning audio-visual presentations alongside iconic objects from the museum’s collection.
Portsmouth’s D-Day Museum is Britain’s only museum dedicated solely to covering all aspects of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. D-Day was a turning point in the Second World War, and a moment when the course of world events depended on the Allied troops taking part.
Opened in 1984 by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, it tells the story of Operation Overlord during the Normandy D-Day landings.
