“This gastro style pub is a great place for food within the cosy restaurant or a quick coffee at their recently opened café. The Sun Inn sits in view of Newbattle Viaduct, a grand piece of historic engineering that carries the Borders Railway line over the River South Esk in Newtongrange. The viaduct was re-opened in 2015 following the railway line being reinstated.”

“This is one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian colliery in Europe. The highly rated visitor attraction is a twice winner of the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions "Best Visitor Experience" Award. Visitors to the museum will marvel at the sheer size of the place, be astounded by the engineering brilliance behind all the machinery and retrace the footsteps of the thousands of miners that plied their trade within Newtongrange through the many interactive exhibitions. There is also a café which serves fresh food daily and a gift shop with bespoke souvenirs. Knowledgeable and personable guided tours are also available. Audio tour and self-guided options in English, Deutsch and Français.”

“Overlooking the beautiful River Esk in the tranquil conservation village of Lasswade in Midlothian, the Paper Mill is an airy, natural wood restaurant and bar with terrace, situated within a historic former paper mill. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving a range of modern European fare made from local produce.”

“A large and sophisticated castle with a spectacular a facade of faceted stonework in an Italian Renaissance style. Mary Queen of Scots attended a wedding here. The courtyard is fully accessible. Access to areas leading from there depends on the visitor's mobility as each room and cellar has up to three steps leading to it. Carved stonework around fireplaces and doorways offers a hands-on experience. The castle is only open during the summer months and closed between October to March.”
