Small and understated beach community just south of Marina Del Rey. Ample street parking for an uncrowded day at the beach. The waves are soft and easy. Travel further south to El Segundo or Manhattan Beach for larger surf and more food options.

Santa Monica Pier is great for families. We usually buy the wristbands online in advance to save money. The best time to visit is the evening near sunset. Don't eat at the pier, there is plenty to eat east towards the Santa Monica Promenade. Don't forget to check out the street performers along the way.

Playa Vista is brand new community with its own promenade, movie theaters, Whole Foods market, and fantastic restaurants. Take the Meto 110 bus there, so you can have cocktails. You must try ROC! It's the best Chinese restaurant in the city!

There are many great restaurants in Japantown. My wife loves ramen, but among the authentic Japanese food is my favorite Chinese restaurant, ROC Republic of China.

This is perfect for a quick lunch for couples or smaller groups. Groups may have to split-up depending on the availability of seating, but it is sooooo good!!!
