There are a number of nature reserves around Almere, all worth a visit, for the pleasure of immersing yourself into Nature and also for the learning experience. The largest of these places, de Oostvaardersplassen is a noted example of Rewilding whereby the aim is to restore and protect natural processes and wilderness areas. Put simply, this nature reserve is turning back the clock by thousands of years.
