Ten kilometers past Valenciana on the winding highway to Dolores Hidalgo, you will encounter an amazing pueblo in the forested sierra. Spectacular views of protected areas and plenty of hiking opportunities. Delicious local eateries with reasonable prices and a shop run by a local women’s cooperative that sells homemade jams, jellies and liquors. There is also a store with original hand-painted ceramics not available elsewhere in Mexico. (Ask for Mari--she can usually arrange a tour of the workshop nearby where the artisans are working). Take a bus near the Alhóndiga heading toward Dolores Hidalgo (11 pesos one way) or take a taxi (approximately 200 pesos one way). Bring hiking gear and warm
