Food Scene

This is a small restaurant in a pub with great food, good personal service and atmosphere, but it is not a typical pub restaurant. The food is actually restaurant standard, and the meals are big.

Small place, good food, cash only, not too expensive or noisy.

Walk down Brunswick Road to Lygon St, and take the tram towards the city to Carlton. Great food, atmosphere, staff and the prices are reasonable. It is worth the short trip. The older Italian restaurant strip is also found here, a little further down the road. I'm not so keen on the commercial nature of this strip, but it is a piece of classic Melbourne street restaurant life that is worth sampling.

Drinks & Nightlife

More than a bar, it has a large indoor/outdoor landscaped cafe area, as well as plenty of music and various bands in the rear stage area. Food varies, but I love the exquisite, tapas type 'boxes' they have. Middle of the day is much quieter, but very pleasant. Look for the zebra at the end of the car park off Dawson St near the railway line.

Worth the walk up Lygon St, we love sitting in the front window spots with beautiful wines and toasties or other tapas-type small plates, watching the world go by, and with great music playing.

Interesting large old room upstairs, which is popular with locals. Food and drinks are reasonable. Service is variable though.

Sightseeing

Classic old Melbourne architecture. This is where Melbourne held international exhibitions since the late 1800's and where Australia was declared a Federation in 1901. An amazing building itself but there are also great gardens and other things such as the Melbourne Museum next door.

Parks & Nature

Only 500m walk from Brunswick Vibe, it is Melbourne's biggest park at 181 hectares. The zoo and Royal Park Golf Course is in the middle of it. Many sporting facilities are provided including the North Park Tennis Club, Royal Park Golf Course, football and soccer ovals, baseball and cricket pitches, State Netball and Hockey Centre, and cycling and walking paths. On the corner of Gatehouse street and Royal Parade there is a native garden. There are wide vistas of grassland and lightly timbered areas with eucalypts, casuarina and acacias. A wetlands area was developed in 2005. The grassy hill between the Royal Children's Hospital and the Native Garden is ideal for kite flying during the day. Over the summer months members of the Astronomical Society of Victoria set up telescopes and conduct evening talks and tours of the night sky from this vantage point. (Thanks to Wikipaedia)
