My favorite spots in Montezuma
Food Scene
This is the place if you want to see local musicians play. Open-mic night is every Monday and they also have live music most other nights. Their food is a mix of curries, tasty salads, italian pizzas, fantastic smoothies and homemade ice-cream. Make sure to ask for ginger beer or the local craft beer (they are not on the menu).
After the restaurant closes the local musicians often set up in the street and there is drumming, dancing and sometimes fire shows.

My favorite restaurant, it's up in the hills towards Las Delicias. A mix of international food. Excellent tuna tartar, green papaya salad, Moroccan fish stew, humus with sweet onions and mushrooms, or for the meat lovers the pork belly. Ask for Eddie's ginger beer!
Keilor is one of the best chefs in Costa Rica and he serves excellent food at Ubin. If you want to treat yourself, go try it, it’s excellent food. They have happy hour in the afternoons until 6pm . My favorite is maracuja gin tonic and the mussels in coconut milk is a fantastic starter, you can share it as it’s a big portion. Prices are higher but more than worth it.

Sightseeing
About one kilometer outside town the trail to the bottom waterfall starts. It’s a 20-minute hike along the river, sometimes a bit slippery. It’s a beautiful spot to relax and go for a swim. There is also a trail leading up to the other two waterfalls. The alternative to access the upper falls is from a trail that starts next to the Butterfly Garden uphill. This trail is private, and they charge 1,000 colones for access.

It’s about 30 minutes from town and great for swimming and surfing as there are no rocks there. Make sure you keep your things safe from the monkeys!

Bioluminescence and Sunset Tour
The ocean can glow and glitter in neon blue like the stars in the sky thanks to a natural chemical process known as bioluminescence. You leave by boat from Montezuma to Playa Muertos Beach at 4:30 p.m., where you will watch the picturesque sunset, accompanied by these cocktails, snacks and music. With night fall swim in the ocean, then marveling at the bioluminescence. Return to Montezuma by minibus.
