Sweet little cafe in the sunshine. The coffee is just ok but the pastries are super. Also a good place to pick up a baguette for lunch.

Superlatively expensive, superlatively busy, superlatively good. You could spend your whole holiday here, if you could get a table. Really good food, especially the salads, but tragically only open for breakfast and lunch. They also have a hole in the wall for take away coffee.

2 The EsplanadeSuperlatively expensive, superlatively busy, superlatively good. You could spend your whole holiday here, if you could get a table. Really good food, especially the salads, but tragically only open for breakfast and lunch. They also have a hole in the wall for take away coffee.
A lovely place for a special lunch or dinner. We actually prefer it to the more famous Bathers Pavilion - it feels more intimate and it's better value. Very nice wines and good fish dishes.

A visit to Bottom of the Harbour is sort of obligatory for any Balmoral stay. It's always heaving, but the line moves fast. The fish and chips are passable, made good by the setting .. but you won't have much change left for ice cream. We BYO a bottle of wine and sit on the sand at sunset to eat.

The fish and chips are passable, made good by the setting .. but you won't have much change left for ice cream. We BYO a bottle of wine and sit on the sand at sunset to eat.
It's hard to walk past this iconic place and not wish you were inside having a drink and looking out at the sea. It has a bistro and a fine-dining restaurant. We prefer the bistro as the restaurant is very overpriced. We are friends with one of the pastry chefs here and her creations are irresistible.

We prefer the bistro as the restaurant is very overpriced. We are friends with one of the pastry chefs here and her creations are irresistible.
Really lovely restaurant looking down over Clifton gardens beach. Excellent food and quite reasonably priced - they are also BYO wine and champagne. Earn your lunch by walking there from our place along the bush path!

Great place for lunch or coffee, by the marina at the Spit. Next to the main road but not noisy at all. A teeny beach for kids to play on while waiting for their food

Entertainment & Activities
Gorgeous art-deco picture house. If you're lucky enough to be in the main theatre, you might get the organ guy playing the Wurlitzer before your show - it comes out of the floor! There are lots of places to get an eat or drink after your movie

A different way to see the harbour - book a couple of hours to get the most out your trip, and paddle across to Clontarf or around to Chinaman's.

A 10km must-do walk with fantastic views over the northern Harbour. If you want to add a couple of miles, you can start it from our house and walk to the spit, otherwise take the bus to the start. Finish up at Manly for a well-earned beer and lunch, and get the ferries home!
