This unofficial title dates back to Victorian years when a landlady of the Inn found her ducks lying stretched out in the road and concluded that they were dead.
Thriftily she began to pluck and prepare them for dinner. The ducks however, were "quick" and not dead. Down in the cellar a barrel had slipped its hoops and beer had gradually drained from the floor into the duck's customary feeding ditch. Thereupon the ducks made all too good use of their unexpected opportunity, with the result that when they came to they found themselves plucked and halfway to the oven.
Reported to be one of the best pub/food places in Cumbria

One needs a big appetite when eating in this pub. The meals are very generous and are very tasty, one does not want to leave a scrap but it is almost impossible not too. Their own brewed beer, Bitter End Ale is very tasty too, nice and smooth. A very friendly warm welcoming pub. They also have their own mini brewery on site, worth a look.

Situated close to Temple Sowerby this water mill dates back to 1597, and the famous walled garden is known for its colourful spring blooms, including daffodils and wood anemones and a sunken garden. Also a world famous collection of herbs.

If you are spending a day at Muncaster, head out on the wild walk and enjoy a recreation of the Himalayan foothills. The Owl Centre and the Meadow Vole Maze are also well worth a visit.

Ashness Bridge is perhaps the most photographed packhorse bridge in the Lake District due to its location and stunning views. This extremely popular viewpoint looks out over Derwent Water with spectacular views over Bassenthwaite Lake and the River Derwent.

This display is also home to Turbot who subtly blend into the bed of the tank and large lobsters that burrow away in corners and between rocks! The Rays are very sociable and will often come up to the surface to get some attention.

This has got to be one of the best historical places to go. Spend a bit of time looking around so you don't miss anything. Fascinating piece of history, great clock worth a wait for it to chime shall we say! You also get a shot of Rum on the way out. Well worth a visit

Jennings Brewery was founded in the village of Lorton (situated between Keswick and Cockermouth) in 1828 by John Jennings (1783 – 1876), son of William Jennings (1751 – 1848) who was a Malster by trade.
Some oral traditions claim the original brewery in Lorton was either at Scales or High Swinside. Certainly John Jennings (Snr.) lived and farmed at Scales. He also bought High Swinside in 1845, but more probably the brewery first operated in buildings near to the present Lorton Village Hall which was originally built as a malthouse
John's son, John Jennings Junior (1813 – 1889) was certainly involved in his father's business, but by 1851 John Junior's business was described in the census as
