A la Carte Restaurant 1906 Bled is located on the quiet side of Lake Bled at Hotel Triglav. The restaurant impresses immediately with the spacious seating, candlelight, and terrific view of the lake and the little island as well as the mountains around. The food is superb with a varied choice on the menu to suit all tastes, fine dining but still quite big portions and very yum, healthy and modern. The atmosphere is really elegant and tasteful and the restaurant also has a lovely terrace. The service staff are friendly, prompt and accurate and their knowledge of the food and wine is excellent.

You can not visit Bled without trying the delights of Zima. The cakes in here are absolutely superb and in our opinion they do the best Bled Cream Cake in town. The accompanying coffee, tea and ice cream are also excellent and the prices are very reasonable.

Bled Castle Restaurant is an exquisite restaurant located at Bled Castle. Under new management as of March 2015, it offers traditional Slovene dishes with a modern twist – the current generation of the Jezersek family is serving modern interpretations of recipes written by his grandmother more than 70 years ago. The menu is regularly adapted to reflect the season. The food and the service are excellent, but one of the main reasons to eat here are the extraordinary views over the Lake Bled and Slovenian Alps.

Restaurant Lectar is a lovingly decorated homey restaurant, serving a selection of delicious Slovene cuisine and wines. An over 500-year-old house stands on the medieval square in the centre of Radovljica, in which the Lectar restaurant has been operating since 1822. The food is so inviting to the eyes and tastes so darn good! The service is excellent and the restaurant is so cozy and welcoming, conveniently divided into several rooms and decorated with care and love. A must see here is museum in the basement, where gingerbread hearts and other products are still made from gingerbread in keeping with a time honoured tradition. Folk music and dancing is arranged most evenings for some light entertainment for the restaurant’s guests. A lovely dining experience in every way.

With over a century of tradition (it was officially opened for business in 1909), Murka is one of the longest running traditional Slovenian restaurants in the Bled area. It is a very popular place with locals and their families, not just tourists. It is 5 minutes walk from Bled centre in the direction towards the Bled castle. The restaurant has a rustic feel about it and is split into a few rooms. The covered outdoor seating of the terrace is a great place to dine in summer. The food is a mix of super-authentic Slovenian traditional dishes and a barbecue grill. Very tasty dishes and hearty portions. Offers good-value lunch specials for around €6. Staff is very friendly and welcoming and speak a number of languages. Can offer good recommendations too. Very good value for money and the authentic feel of this place really adds to the eating. Extra offerings at Murka include schnapps (try the blueberry schnapps, it’s lovely) and wine tastings, and medieval meals.

Grajska Plaza is a lovely little restaurant perched on the north bank of Lake Bled in the heart of the Castle bathing complex under the Bled castle. It is one of our favorite places to eat in the Bled area. With a pretty wooden deck that overlooks the lake as well as free Wi-Fi, it’s the perfect place to sit back and enjoy the view. A great menu of delicious dishes is found, covering everything from light lunches to Mediterranean and Slovenian specialties and much in between, with plenty on offer for vegetarians as well. The Grajska Plaza is also an excellent place to head if you want to sit with a beverage and admire the views. Prices are reasonable for Bled and worth the money!

Yes, you’ll find a McDonald’s in the Bled area. It includes a restaurant, a McDrive and a McCafé. McDonalds is a well renowned fast food restaurant with more than 30,000 McDonald’s restaurants in over 120 countries around the world. When traveling, most people try not to head for the familiar fast-food places of home, preferring to eat at local restaurants and sample the local cuisine. But, every now and then, it’s nice to slip in to a familiar place. And if you wonder how the food in the McDonalds Lesce tastes compared to back home, well, it is exactly the same. It’s a McDonalds, they are all the same, anywhere you go in the world (which is not necessarily a bad thing).

This is a charming little castle built on a precipice above the town of Bled, overlooking Lake Bled. The views from the castle over the lake and town to the mountains beyond are really spectacular. You have to pay an entrance fee to get into the grounds of the castle, but it is well worth it. The museum in the castle is really interesting and there is a blacksmiths forge, old printing room and a small chapel. Throughout the year, but especially in the summer months, the castle hosts numerous interesting events.

The Church of Mary the Queen, also known as the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, or Our Lady of the Lake, is located on a small island in the middle of Lake Bled. It has such a beautiful setting that photographs of it are regularly found in travel magazines. Of special interest in the church is a bell of wishes, made by Francesco Patavino from Padova way back in 1534. The legend says that those who ring the bell and make a wish, will see their wish come true. But there’s one rule: you can make only one wish.

Vintgar Gorge (also known as Bled Gorge) is one the most beautiful places in Slovenia. Just outside the northern side of Bled this gorge has been made into a great attraction by the addition of walkways alongside and across the river. It’s really a stunning gorge with turquoise water, white rapids, lots of fish clearly visible, and a waterfall to top it off. Prepare to have your camera in hand for most of the time!

Lake Bohinj is Slovenia`s largest glacial lake and it’s about half an hour drive from Bled. It is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia. The Alps dominate the scenery and on a clear, sunny, calm day the water looks like a piece of glass reflecting everything so perfectly. If you like nature this is the place to visit. It’s possible to rent a boat and go around the lake. It’s also possible to swim in the summer months. The water is a little colder to swim in than Lake Bled but it is easier to find somewhere more secluded – there are plenty of shady beaches, basically you can enter the lake anywhere where you find a place. All places you could possibly stop have scenic views.

St Martin's Church is a white neo-Gothic beauty erected in 1905, St Martin's was designed by same architect who was responsible for Vienna's town hall, and it shows in the sheer verticality of the building. The church is surrounded by the walls which had to protect the earlier church from Ottoman incursions, and the interior has frescoes from the late 1930s.

The Vogel Ski Centre is worth visiting also in summer. Need good weather of course. After a very steep ascent up to 1534 meters above sea level on the cable car you are met with stunning views of Lake Bohinj and the surrounding mountains of the Slovenian Alps, including Mt. Triglav. It’s disabled & pushchair friendly. There’s a nice cafe restaurant on top, or you can bring some food and enjoy a fantastic picnic on the mountain. A zip wire for adults and children and a few hikes are available too! You can also take the Orlove Glave chair lift and go even higher up.

Waterfall Savica is possibly the most famous and the most beautiful and dramatic waterfall in Slovenia. Some say it is ‘too touristy’, but there is a reason a place is ‘too touristy’ and that reason is because the place is so incredibly beautiful. Why should not as many people as possible enjoy it?

Mostnica Gorge is located in the surrounding area of Lake Bohinj, about 35 minutes drive from the Bled area. The best place to start the exploration of Mostnica Gorge is in the Stara Fuzina village, where you pass the Zois’ mansion right up to Devil’s Bridge. Not far from the bridge is a trailhead that leads through a forest, where you can view this beautiful gorge. The crystal clear Mostnica stream has carved a 2-kilometer gorge and you can observe interesting creatures of nature along the trail, i.e. waterfalls, pools etc. A hollow rock which got the name “Little Elephant” is especially interesting, since it emerged when the water broke through a rock. The hike takes about one and a half hour and it’s a quite comfortable hike.

Pericnik Waterfall is a magnificent waterfall located in the beautiful Vrata valley, about half an hour drive from Bled. The road from the village of Mojstrana is slightly uphill, but not too difficult. It follows a small river called Triglavska Bistrica, which is picturesque. The short walk up to the Pericnik falls is steep but fun and takes less than 10 minutes. The falls are spectacular (52 meters drop). You can walk behind it and climb right down to the pool beneath it too (as long as you don’t mind being sprayed with mist). In winter, the waterfall turns into innumerable icicles and floes in delicate shades of blue and green.

Lake Jasna is an extraordinary beautiful small alpine lake. The statue of Goldhorn (Slovene: Zlatorog) stands proudly at the entrance, don’t forget to take a photo or two! The views around the lake are very scenic. There’s an area to feed the ducks, a 3 level diving platform and central platform to swim to. The area around the lake offers wonderful trails, but you can also enjoy fishing since it is a well-known fishing district. Really a great place to spend a bit of time and enjoy incredible views.

The Planica Valley has been a very significant place for Nordic sports since the thirties of the last century, when it claimed the first ski jumping world record and when it also gave birth to a new discipline called ski flying. Since than, the ski jumping and ski flying competition in Planica became one of the national symbols of Slovenia. In 2007 the valley became the site of a major renovation, which lasted until the year 2015 and which brought to life the Nordic Centre Planica – a modern Nordic skiing complex that boasts one ski flying hill, seven ski jumping hills, a cross-country skiing tracks and various summer activities like zip-line on the ski flying hill (it lasts 40 seconds and is the steepest in the world). The central building comprises a viewing platform, the Planica Museum on two floors, a wind tunnel and catering facilities. The children can have fun in the adrenaline park, as well as in the children’s corner in the central cross-skiing facility. Guided tours along the central facility and its surroundings are available too.

Velika Planina is considered to be one of the largest and most beautiful Alpine pastures not only in Slovenia but in the whole of Europe, covering almost 600 hectares of pastureland. It is also one of the most unique pastures you will find, as it is dotted with more than 50 semicircular wooden cottages that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Local herdsmen drive cattle up from the valleys each end of May and remain on Velika Planina for the rest of the summer season. The herdsmen also produce dairy products, including butter and cheese, which they often sell to visitors. Velika Planina is located at an elevation of around 1,600 metres in the heart of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. It is accessible by cable car from the Kamniska Bistrica village, which is around a 50-minute drive from our place. The journey to the this high-elevation pasture comes in 2 stages, first an exciting cable-car ride and then a a 15-minute chairlift ride or a relatively easy half an hour walk on a gentle slope – simply follow the signposts up the hill for about two kilometres and you’ll reach a highland plain filled with 50+ shingle-roofed dwellings enclosed within neat fences. Some avid hikers also choose to walk up the mountain without taking the cable car, a semi-difficult hike on a well-marked trail that begins in the Stahovica village. The car parks are large and free at both the cable car terminus and in Stahovica.

The Pokljuka plateau is 20 km long and almost as wide. It is covered with pine tree forests and pastures and spans on the altitude which ranges from 1100 to 1400 m above the sea level. One of its appealing points is certainly the cattle, still grazing on its pastures during the summer season. The shepherds of these pastures will provide you with sour milk, curd and cheese. The shingle-covered wooden cottages represent the characteristic feature of the Pokljuka mountain pastures and were once used by the shepherds as their homes and the place to make sour milk and other dairy products. The Pokljuka plateau offers numerous sports opportunities. The plateau represents a perfect starting point for mountaineering, whilst the cyclists enjoy its beautiful nature, low motor vehicle transport volume and somewhat more demanding nearby ascents. During the winter season it turns into a very popular cross-country skiing destination which also hosts international biathlon competitions.

The pristine beauty of this emerald river attracts nature lovers, photographers and water-sports enthusiasts from all around the world and it truly is a nature’s paradise. Different sections of the river are very different, the water colors and the rocks are different, it’s great to drive along the river and stop and relax and take photographs. Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, is considered to be a yet undiscovered gem of Europe. It is often compared with Prague due to its beautiful architectural appearance, which is the result of the legacy of different periods in history. Buildings are beautiful with different colors and ornaments. There are fountains and statues around almost any corner you turn. There are shops, cafes and restaurants for you to stick your head into and decide if it’s somewhere you want to go in. The Ljubljanica River runs right through the middle. The whole area is a pedestrian zone, so you can walk around without fear of getting run over by a car. Walking along the Ljubljanica River with restaurants, shops and a lively outdoor market is a pleasant way to spend a few hours. There are squares where people gather and musicians play. Plus, there’s a castle that overlooks the entire Old Town that you can see from anywhere you go.

Skofja Loka is Slovenia’s oldest and most carefully preserved medieval town, with a central castle and a great set of old town walls. This is a great place to explore and spend some time – it is about 35 minutes drive from Bled. The old town centre is composed of an upper square called Mestni Trg, and the lower, Spodnji Trg, both of which are dominated by the Skofja Loka Castle, which is well worth a visit has a beautiful view over the old town the Slovenian Alps and the surrounding forests and field. The climb up to the castle is very manageable by all with railing and gradual up climb. The castle museum is very well assembled and gives a full and diverse overview of Slovenian history, culture, art, and natural history. Behind the town walls, but not far from the town centre, you can also visit some nice natural attractions including the Lubniska Jama cave system and Mary’s Chasm.

The village of Brezje is arguably the most renowned pilgrimage destination in Slovenia and is known for its Basilica of Mary Help of Christians which attracts numerous visitors. The glory of Brezje began in the nineteenth century, following several miraculous healings that took place at the painting of Mary Help of Christians. In 1988, the Church of Mary Help of Christians was elevated to the status of basilica by Pope John Paul II. In 2000, the basilica was proclaimed a Slovene national sanctuary. This is a place of peace, love and hope. Some wittily call it Slovenia’s main spiritual health resort. The basilica is managed by the Franciscans, who built a monastery next to the church. They run a modern Pilgrimage Office next to the car park, where you can obtain information on the sanctuary and pilgrimage routes. Adjacent to the basilica, in the building that once served as the monastery’s barn, the Franciscans opened the Canticle of the Sun Museum. In the park in front of the church there is a sculpture of the Holy Family and a huge cross.

Art Cafe Bar is in a good location overlooking the small park at the northeastern end of Lake Bled. The wide, open terrace that overlooks the lake and the castle is a great place to enjoy the delicious Illy coffee or a cocktail or two. The atmosphere is great and it’s reasonably priced. Visit Bled Island by a traditional Pletna boat

You can ride on the lake and to the island in various ways, also on a traditional boat called pletna. Pletna boats are made by locals and are typical of Bled. Their origins date back to 1590. You should be able to recognize it from afar as it is equipped with a colourful awning which protects passengers from the sun and other weather conditions. The Pletna boat is 7 metres long and 2 metres wide and it ensures safe navigation for 18 people.
