Drinks & Nightlife

Great for the beer drinker, with a lot of different beers on tap. They have a fun menu that includes a beer float as well. There are two locations that I know of. There is this one listed, and another on Abrams and Gaston. That one is actually much closer to the apartment, but it did not pop up on this map.

This is a bar/restaurant/music venue with pretty good (but overprice IMO) food, a nice bar, and live music most nights. They have very comfortable seating for their little music area and the staff is extremely friendly. Also, they show The Walking Dead there for 2 hours every Sunday night when the new episodes air.

All the big concerts are here! Whether you're on the lawn or in the seats, you should enjoy the show! This place is quite close to our apartment, so getting back and finding a soft place to land after the show should be pretty easy.

A lot of our guests come for concerts at House of Blues. It's in a very nice part of Dallas and they always have very good bands there. I'm not crazy about this venue (mostly because I'm old and I can't stand for an entire concert anymore), but I have been to a couple concerts there that were impressive.

This is located inside Gilley's, an iconic Dallas location. Nicole and I have gone to 1 show there and it was great. Very fun location, between Alamo Draft House and the South Side building.

Do you like to Swing Dance? This is an EXTREMELY fun place to come, time travel back to a simpler time. Many of the dancers here dress up like it's the 40's and 50's. There is a good mixture of talent, ranging from beginner to expert. It can get quite crowded, you may want to bring an extra shirt guys. $7 cash entry. Lesson starts at 8 pm. on Wednesday nights. I actually proposed to Nicole here.

Sammons has swing dancing on Saturday night. I believe the entry fee is $10 cash. It is a very nice dance hall and they have a live band there quite often. This would be a very fun Saturday night for people wanting to dance. The talent does range from beginner to expert, but this place tends to have a majority of experienced dancers.

I've never been here, but Nicole has, and I have several friends that go regularly. This is THE Dallas location for Country Dancing.

Parks & Nature

This is a beautiful lake with a 9 mile trail around it. It is great for Running or Biking, Picnics, or Kayaking. If you have some free time and you just want a quiet place to relax, you should be able to do that here.

Entertainment & Activities

This is my favorite attraction in Dallas. It is a little more expensive than some of the other attractions, but it is well worth it. You can spend 5 hours or more in this place if you enjoy learning about different animals. The shark tunnel and penguins are pretty nice as well.

Great Theater in a very fun part of town. They have a bar with patio seating with a GREAT view of downtown. This is a very fun place to relax and then watch a movie if you want. They have great food as well.

Great exhibits if you want to learn or teach about science. Set aside the majority of your day and get there early. There is a LOT to see. Nicole and I went for about 4 hours one day and didn't come close to finishing. Granted, they had the Sherlock Holmes exhibit that day, and I'm a Sherlock geek, so we spent about 2.5 hours at 1 exhibit.

If you are interested in the JFK assassination, Houston and Main/Commerce is where you want to go. They have the JFK memorial, as well as the Sixth Floor Museum down there.
