Polish food. Stash has been a staple in Old Montreal for decades. The menu hasn't changed in forever because when you get the right formula you stick with it. The menu is designed so you can share - for a group of four I would recommend the Schnitzel, potato pancakes, cabbage rolls, pierogis and krokiety. For an individual, you can get a beginner's plate which has a nice mix of the above. The kitchen is in the basement so the waiter gets a good workout.

Close by and decent prices. Easy eating like burgers, salads, etc... general fare. Nice location with a terrasse in the summer to people-watch on busy McGill street. Something for everyone.

Mandy's is a Montreal-born, all-girl's setup (founded by two sisters). Great décor and a nice place to get a sandwich and coffee. Very close to the loft.

Good for breakfast (they open at 5am), lunch or an early dinner if you just want to eat and aren't concerned with atmosphere and décor. The kind of place that doesn't make any fancy restaurant lists but at which every local has eaten.

With a name like Ghandi it can only be Indian food! Decent prices, the food is good and the staff very polite.

French/Mediterranean fare in a wonderful décor and atmosphere. You will feel like you never left the condo with the stone walls and the wood-beam ceilings. Lots of good reviews in the local press on this one.

This is the most historically interesting spot in the city. The square known as Place D'Armes is bordered on the south side by Notre-Dame Basilica which is the most worthwhile tourist attraction in the city. To the East is the Aldred building, neighbour to the New York Life insurance building. To the North is the stunning Bank Of Montreal. Forget the horrible modern office tower to the West, don't even turn your head, the ugliness will haunt you.
