Laid back dinning with seasonal produce. You can sometimes get a castle view from the window tables. Food is fresh and beautifully cooked. Lunch menu is a bargain.

Best done on a clear day, when you can get a 360 degree view of Edinburgh. The wind at the top can be bracing.

A seaside town. It's home to an eclectic mix of shops, cafes and bars. Just a 30 minute train journey from Edinburgh, North Berwick offers striking views out to the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock, the world's largest northern gannet colony.
Or hire a bike on a sunny day and take the costal route. You can bring bikes back on the train if you don't fancy the return journey.

Great place to learn about some of Scotland's history. Building itself is an architectural gem. Lots of modern portraits too and and a lovely cafe.
For something a little unusual, make sure you stop off at the 'death masks.'
It's not far from the train station or the airport bus. Lockers are available for storing bags, including very large lockers (for a wheelie bag).
