They also have lounging chairs right on the beach for relaxing with a drink or watching the kids swim. There are showers upstairs for cleaning up after a long day at the beach. Food and drinks are great, and it is a quiet area so you will rarely be harassed by beach vendors or be over crowded, even during peak season.

Beautiful cathedral beside the plaza, nice to hang out and people watch, a lot of cafe's, restaurants. This is heart and soul of downtown, Merida. At night there is often live music.
