Historic local farmhouse where Friedrich Schiller lived from May to September 1785 and wrote his “Ode to Joy”. Nice little garden out the back and just around the corner.

Famous for its huge Gondwanaland exhibition - the world's second largest indoor rainforest hall at 1.65 ha or 4.1 acres. Indoor attractions make it great for rainy days.

Center of activity in the park in Summer. A traffic free bridge that's a popular meeting point. The surrounding parks have biergartens, pavilions and occasionally live music in Summer.

Popular lake that's surrounded by beaches and places to swim. Many nudists here in summer so maybe not for the prudish!
The lake is one of the reclaimed open-pit coal mines in the area that's known as "neuseenland" ("new lakes district") that is now becoming a recreation area.

A former coal mine that's now been reclaimed as a lake and nature reserve. Quieter than Cossi, and also great for cycling.

Good place (but one of many) to hire kayaks starting from 6euro/hr for a single. On a sunny weekend day its worth reserving one in advance. Kayaking is especially good for beginners in Leipzig because there isn't really any big boats on the water. Also beach volleyball and a beach bar nearby.
