Montréal Bagels - a must. You can stock up or come back again and again (the fresher, the better - sesame is the classic, but I also love the rosemary once, and cinnamon and raisin for breakfast). If you're hungry on the spot, buy a few bagels and mini cream cheese and eat them on the go.

Not to be missed, this Hebrew deli makes the most iconic Montreal smoked meat. Expect long lines on weekends. If you ain't a strong eater, consider sharing a sandwich - they are massive! Open late.

Great small pizza place, or "tavola calda". They close at 8pm, so come here for lunch and have a few slices of pizza, or some pasta. They always seem a bit overworked, but super friendly and the food is worth it.

You can be brave and have a piece of Kouign Amann (which seems to be mainly butter and sugar, but we love butter and sugar!) , or just a regular pastry. Everything is very good! Nice quick walk from the apartment, great if you want to have breakfast at home.

Parks & Nature

Perfect for a walk, jog or cycle (and if you're lazy the Bus 11 can take you up the mountain, leaving from Ave Mont Royal x Parc.) Best views of the city. My favourite thing is to grab some pastries, hike up the mountain and then have breakfast at the "summit". There's a coffee vending machine at the chalet at the view point. More on how to get there here: http://gocanada.about.com/od/montreal/tp/mont_royal.htm

It's not quite a park per se, but a great place to go cycling, walking or just sit by the Canal. Stop over at Atwater Market, stock up on food, and you're good to go. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/qc/canallachine/activ.aspx
