There are many cruises and charter boat options from the wharf - fishing, sightseeing, dolphin watching, sailing.

Take a day tour to visit the iconic, spectacular and sacred to Maori, Cape Reinga: departure point of the Spirits. Take a bus from Paihia to include a sand trip along 90 Mile Beach and the Te Paki stream. There are many beautiful Northland beaches and places along the way. If self-driving and considering driving the beach you must read this first: http://ahipara.co.nz/Utils/doc/tepaki.htm It is very easy to come to grief there. You can view the beach from Ahipara without risking the drive.

Built in 1835 it is the oldest church in New Zealand and one of the very oldest buildings. It retains musket and cannon ball holes from the Battle of Kororareka between Maori and settlers in 1845. The graveyard contains many historic graves and inscriptions.
