Sightseeing

Mevagissey is a lovely fishing village 2 miles away. There are a lot of pubs, restaurants and shops. And of course the harbour to walk along. Grab an icecream and walk out along Rock quay. Note that it does get very busy in the summer and it is best to avoid driving through it at that time. There are a few ways to get there: Walking You can walk along the coast path, it is about 3 miles to Meva and you go past Chapel Point. Or you can walk along the lanes/over a field, which is about 2 miles. Either way, walk up Trewollock Lane, turn right at the top. After 50m there is a gate with a style off to the right, this leads down a track to the coast path. Or, keep going along the lane. When the lane joins another road there is a style 30m along that takes you into a field. You can cross the field to cut the corner. Driving Take the 'long way' past Heligan Gardens to get down to Mevagissey car park. This avoids Bell Hill which is narrow and notorious for jams in the summer.

Beaches & Places to Walk To

There are lots of lovely beaches around. Gorran Haven has places to eat and loos. If you'd prefer somewhere quieter there are plenty of options to choose from.
Our closest beach, 5 mins down the hill. If the tide is high or the beach too busy, try the quay. The raised step is a great place to sit. Perhaps grab a coffee from the Mermaid, a beer from Cakebreads, or Fish & Chips from The Haven.

Vault is a lovely long beach. It is about a mile to walk to from The Den, so about 25 mins away. There is a car park up Lamledra Hill that is closer. Either way, there is a hill to walk up. There aren't any amenities at Vault, but it is a lovely place to take a picnic to. It is also a good beach for a dip in the sea. If you're feeling adventurous you can kayak or paddleboard around to Vault from Gorran Beach.

Dodman Point along the coast path past Vault beach. Another way to get there is to walk up 'the slips' footpath. To get there walk down Trewollock Lane, turn right at the bottom, left at 'the triangle' down Rice Lane. Take the 2nd road on the right where you'll see a footpath sign. You end up at 'Treveague Campsite' which you can walk through. Keep going to Penare and take the track out to Dodman. You can then walk back along the coast path making a circular route of about 4 miles.

Otherwise known as Caerhayes beach, this has a very good beach cafe and features the back drop of the castle. There is parking right next to the beach (pay & display) making it easy access. The beach gets very large at low tide. A good place for body boarding and surfing when the conditions are right. It is a 10 min drive away, or 5 miles along the coast path.
