What should you really do in Volendam?
In Volendam, the most famous fishing village in the Netherlands, there is plenty to do all year round. Take a look at the cozy harbor with old Dutch ships and take a boat trip to Marken. Or have yourself photographed in traditional Volendam costume and learn more about the history of Volendam in one of the museums.

What should you really do in Volendam?
In Volendam, the most famous fishing village in the Netherlands, there is plenty to do all year round. Take a look at the cozy harbor with old Dutch ships and take a boat trip to Marken. Or have yourself photographed in traditional Volendam costume and learn more about the history of Volendam in one of the museums.
With the water taxi you can sail past the historic ship and the sixteenth-century warehouses.
The Westfries Museum, where more than 30,000 objects can be admired, gives a nice insight into the time when Hoorn was an important seafaring city.
The large defensive tower (Hoofdtoren) from the sixteenth century was built to protect the city on the IJsselmeer. This can be viewed and there is a restaurant on the top floor.
The Hoorn cheese market, which was already held in the Golden Age, is the oldest in the Netherlands. The market takes place on the Roode Steen square from mid-June to the end of August.
Housed in a former prison, the Museum of the 20th Century shows how our parents and grandparents lived.

The Lutine is a British ship that inexplicably went down in 1799 between Vlieland and Terschelling with a huge cargo of gold on board. All that gold at the bottom of the sea has infected many divers with the gold rush. However, they were not as successful as prospectors.
Three Egmond divers have changed that. With their ingenious strategy, she fished up one gold bar after another. But the gold rush has also fueled greed among the Egmonders. In order not to have to hand over half of their finds, they planned to hide the gold and resurface later unseen. We recently found the diary of one of the divers and it appears that this was never successful. Will the gold still be hidden somewhere on the ship?
