It has retained its medieval character of cobblestone streets and gabled houses. Visit the Grote Markt, one of the many Haarlem´s museums or simply walk around the city admiring its beautiful buildings.

Discover Rembrandt´s city of birth, Leiden.
Only 30 mins from the ARK. by car.
During spring you could also combine it and visit Lisse on your way to Leiden. ( see NOTE below )
Leiden is well known for it´s courtyards and has no fewer than 35 of them.
Get a courtyard walking tour map at the VVV ( tourist office ) and discover the tranquility and beauty of this courtyards.
If you are not in the mood for walking, hire a boat or book a canal tour and sail away on its 28 kms of canals where you can see many green spaces, the buildings and as many as 88 bridges only in the city center! Oh,mind your head... :D
(NOTE) Lisse is known for its Tulip fields and the Keukenhof garden - which is open from Mid March to Mid May, and during the summer the Keukenhof Castle, it´s gardens are filled with 150 different types of Dahlias ( feel free to count them ;D ) at the end of August this is celebrated with the Keukenhof Dahlia Days, where all kind of activities can be experienced.

If you like smoked fish this place is a must, they serve it right out their kitchen !
If the weather is nice go out for an hr. stroll , rent a bike and do a tour or take the Zodiac for a ride and visit this half a century family tradition of smoking fish!
Get yourself a nice bottle of white or rose and enjoy a picnic ( or take it back to the ARK and enjoy it on the balcony ) with some Eel, Mackerel, Salmon or some Dutch baby shrimps!

Riding to A´dam and PARKING
What is there to say about this place but that it is magical.
( or actually, a magical ring)
Depending on where it is that you want to be and the time of course, a trip from our ARK by car can take you from 20 to 45 mins. and you might encounter challenging and expensive parking possibilities. Parking on the streets in the city center can cost up to €7,50 an hr.
In the www.Parkeergarage-Kalverstraat.nl you can reserve a spot, the first 3 hrs it cost you €4,50 an hr. after those 3 hrs it goes to €1,80 an hr with a max. of €55 a day.
Q-Park charges also €55 for 24 hrs with parkings at the Museum Square, Nieuwedijk, and a couple of others more.
Another and MUCH better option is P+R parking :
either at the Olympic stadium or in Zeeburg , but you could also park in many other locations around the city.
visit www.Amsterdam.nl for more info, please note that there are a couple of conditions on this one, but at €1 for the whole day it is worth it to read them and to stick to them !

As a high pressure pump connects the boat to the sewer system, NOTHING else than toilet paper can be disposed off in the toilets.
**If the pump gets stuck because of something else, the repair costs will be charged to the tenants**
Also please wipe out pans/pots/plates with kitchen paper before cleaning with water or putting in dishwasher, as grease will also block the pump.
No smoking allowed in the houseboat.
Sup boards: please use the sup boards as if they are yours and put them back on the rack after use.

BASIC INFO 3, MUST READ. Zodiac Rental & Terrace
Zodiac can be rented at €40 per day, on request and by approval of Nadine/ Francisco. It is not difficult to drive a boat, but some experience is required. By law, kids under 12 are not allowed to drive the boat. The engine is an electric engine. Please always take the batteries out of the boat and charge them. When mounting the battery, first do the + then the -. When demounting, first the -, then the +. When shifting between forward and backward, make sure that it is on the neutral (0) for at least one second.
Use of Balcony Please always put the cushions of the loungeset indoor after use.

BBQ: feel free to use the BBQ equipment, but please leave it ready to be used by the next person.
Mosquitos: Please keep doors and windows without mosquito nets closed when the sun goes down in the summer, as the water attracts quite some mosquitos.
Deposit: if you would like to use the sups, zodiac or zodiac engine, please note that in case they get stolen/lost the following will be charged:
Supboard: 350 euro
Peddle: 50 euro
Zodiac: 1250 euro

Supermarket, Stores in the center of Aalsmeer ( 10 min walk)
AH - Albert Heijn- and Aldi supermarkets are 2 mins by car 10 by foot.
Vishandel Veerman ( Fish Monger ) is 5 mins by car 25 by foot.
In the centre of Aalsmeer you can find anything you want from drogstore to Pharmacy, and from clothes to shoe stores.

Rent a Bike, go Dutch!
Since we never forget how to ride a bike, this is the best way to move around, besides a boat of course, around Aalsmeer and surroundings, heck ! you can even make it a day trip to Amsterdam ( 1 hour and 10 mins to the city center and with an e-bike even faster)
For that you can check www.fietsplezierwinkel.nl Normal bike €10 a day, E-Bike €25 a day.

Catching a flight at Schiphol Airport? get yourself an UBER and you'll be there in 10 Mins.
Wanna do a day trip to Amsterdam? get an UBER to Schiphol and from there catch a Train to either Amsterdam Central Station or to Amsterdam Zuid-WTC. ( the later is better if you are going to visit the museums in Amsterdam´s Museumplein, walking from WTC to Van Gogh Museum is a 30 min walk through one of Amsterdam´s best neighbourhoods or, a 11 min ride with the Tram #5 ) <-- I bet you will be singing Lou Vegas Mambo #5 song as you step into it... :D
