This park is right on the Rivanna River in Charlottesville, 10 minutes from our house. It is a lovely, paved path with a view of the river the entire walk. We enjoy coming here with our family for walking, bike rides, and they even have a kayak company that will help you navigate the waters if you’re up to it!

The Rotunda is arguably the most iconic spot at the University of Virginia. You can walk their “Lawn” which is a sprawling field in front of the Rotunda and see the historic buildings the University offers. Right behind these buildings is “The Corner”, which is full of restaurants and a few shops to enjoy after you’ve taken in the sights of the University.

Our family loves coming to this food-court styled building. The entire market is made up of local food vendors, making it a unique Charlottesville foodie experience. We sometimes get food from multiple different people and enjoy the outdoor patio or meet with friends in the long tables inside. You cannot go wrong eating here!

Carter Mountain is a must when visiting Charlottesville. It is 5 minutes from our house, sitting on top of a large hill surrounded by Charlottesville beneath it. They have an apple orchard that you can pick from if it is the right time of the year. Otherwise the large barn has a gift shop, food kiosk, Bold Rock Cidery outpost, Prince Michel Wine, and many places to sit and enjoy the views. On Thursday nights they have a concert sunset series, a favorite in the area to enjoy.

The Downtown Mall is the place to go for Charlottesville’s food scene. There are many restaurants and shops all along this historic pedestrian street, making it a lovely walk that leads your nose and stomach where to go. There is also a free concert series there Friday nights starting in May at the Sprint Pavilion (a music venue at the end of the mall), making it a hot spot on those nights to enjoy the local culture.

This restaurant is where my husband and I love coming to celebrate a special occasion. We’ve been for birthdays, anniversaries, and trying to impress out of town guests. Their menu never disappoints and the restaurant itself is relaxed, yet romantic at the same time. You won’t be disappointed!

Neighborhoods

Our neighborhood is in the heart of the City of Charlottesville. It is a mix of newer and older homes, but a plethora of connecting sidewalks that make it a great place to take a walk or ride a bike. There are also restaurants and a coffee shop at the entrance to our street, making walkability a big reason we moved here! We particularly enjoy Fry Spring Station, a local pizza joint with many other goodies on their menu to engorge on.
