Sightseeing

Queens Park is a large park in the heart of Glasgow's Southside. The highest point of the park offers great views across to the West and North of City where some of Glasgow's most famous landmarks (e.g. University of Glasgow Tower) can be seen. The park is a busy place all year round but is a great green space to enjoy during the long summer days. Within the park there are various child playparks, a 5 aside football / basketball court as well as 4 tennis courts.

The Burrell Collection is now housed in a newly renovated building which opened in March 2022. Situated in the heart of Pollok Park (Glasgow's largest park) the newly refurbished museum houses the private collection of Sir William Burrell (1861–1958) who was born and raised in Glasgow. Along with the rest of his family he was a successful shipping merchant and this allowed him to fund art purchases throughout his life. He collected a wide range of artefacts including late Gothic and early Renaissance European art, magnificent tapestries and stained glass and late 19th century French art, including more than 20 works by Edgar Degas. Sir William believed in free education for all and wanted the people of the city to be able to access his fine collection. In 1944, together with his wife Constance, he generously gifted the Collection to the City of Glasgow. The new museum which bears his name showcases the Burrell Collection like never before!

City/town information

Glasgow is Scotland's biggest city and as such is crammed with places to visit, eat and experience during any type of stay. For visitors it is best to think of the city as split into 4 main areas, the City Centre, the West End, the East End and the Southside. The City Centre has everything you would expect from a modern city; bus and railway transport links, great shopping, loads of places to eat and drink as well as some cultural highlights (George Square and City Council Chambers, Duke of Wellington statue aka the man on a horse with a traffic cone on his head(!), Glasgow Cathedral and many of the many bridges that cross the Clyde). The West End, East End and Southside parts of the city all have a park at its centre...Glasgow after all means 'dear green place' in Scots Gaelic! For the West End this is Kelvingrove Park which borders the main University of Glasgow campus and is where the Kelvingrove Museum is situated. For the East End Glasgow Green is the main green space where the People's Palace and the West Brewery can be visited. Emirates Arena containing velodrome that hosted cycling events at Commonwealth Games in 2014 is located in the East End. If you are a fan of football, Celtic Park is situated right across the road! For the Southside Queen's Park is the located at its heart however Glasgow's biggest park, Pollok Park is not too far away and this is the home of Burrell Collection (newly renovated and opened in March 2022). The areas of Shawlands, Battlefield and Strathbungo all border Queens Park and offer visitor lots of trendy eateries and bars to drink in. If you like late night entertainment then The Shed nightclub is a must over a weekend. Again if you like football, Scotland's National stadium Hampden is located in the southside and is home to Scotland National Football Museum.

Food scene

Simply one of the best local bakeries...anywhere! Everything is delicious from their bread and croissants to cakes and pastries galore. You are likely to be tempted by everything you see...the good thing is it ALL tastes great no matter what you end up buying! Be aware this bakery is only open Thursday-Saturday from 11-3pm and it will close early if it sells out of produce (which it normally does) so get there early to avoid disappointment

Great place to enjoy breakfast lunch and everything in between. The food is excellent which means it is popular. It is also so small so it gets very busy. You cannot book a table per se but if you go along and it is busy they will take your name and number and call you when a table is available. It is worth the wait if required
