We're not big on German food, but this place is always packed so it must have something going for it. It does look like people have fun there. Good selection of beer.

GQ magazine rated this vegetarian burger "number 1". It is pretty good, and there's a vegan option if you're so inclined. Just a hole-in-the-wall, but worth trying if you're in the neighborhood

Drinks & Nightlife

Quiet, romantic place to enjoy good wine with a small meal or cheese plate. Against the Grain (next door) is their beer-based version. Both are intimate, rustic & relaxing.

Sightseeing

Nice views, uninterrupted bike rides or walks along the water for miles. Especially recommended for biking, this is by far the best way to see a lot of Manhattan without riding in traffic. And with just a few blocks on city streets, you can cross the Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn Bridges for astonishing cityscapes and to visit Brooklyn.

Along with the museum, this amazing memorial is a bone-chilling reminder of the diabolical terror visited on lower Manhattan in 2001. Please visit with appropriate respect for those lost on 9/11.

While this 3-block stretch of 8th Street is constantly changing (and currently has lots of Asian restaurants & shops), it's still a bit of a mecca for visitors looking for the essence of the East Village.

Crowded and noisy, the narrow streets of Chinatown still fascinate me. Side-by-side with shops catering only to tourists, you'll still find very foreign scenes, with live seafood crawling out of ice-filled displays, mysterious produce, and—deeper inside the neighborhood—shops, parks and restaurants where you'd swear you were in Beijing. Stop at almost any restaurant for a break and mid-afternoon Dim Sum. Yum.

For many years this park was the epicenter of the protest movements and counterculture activities. Now peaceful and beautiful, there's even a family of hawks that share a nest on the east side of the park, near 8th St.
