1st Colonial Grill creates classics including Bicolano favorites such as laing, Bicol Express and the Tinutungang Manok (chicken stewed in coconut cream extracted from slightly scorched coconut milk that infuses a distinct smoky flavor), a local favorite and one of Albay’s culinary jewels. The dish that put 1st Colonial Grill on the map is Tinapa Rice, a signature of dish fried rice with tinapa flakes and slices of salted egg, green mangoes, and tomatoes served in a small “kawali”. 1st Colonial Grill also has a cafe famous for its unique desserts, especially the now nationally-famous Sili ice cream. Their five-spice grilled chicken and laing are also bestsellers. - See more at: http://wowlegazpi.com/1st-colonial-grill/#sthash.Ubu96iDi.dpuf

What used to be a small cafeteria in Tiwi, Albay is now a snack bar/food chain serving one of the best halo-halo treats in town - DJC. It includes boiled beans, gelatin, tapioca, sugar palm fruit, ube, corn, sweetened banana, leech flan, ice cream and shaved ice in it. DJC's halo-halo is your typical halo-halo with a twist - minus the beans and tapioca but topped with lots of grated cheese.

Embarcadero de Legazpi is a world-class waterfront lifestyle hub at the Legazpi City harbor, the first of its kind in Southern Luzon. As Bicol’s premier urban mall, Embarcadero redeems the glory days of the Legazpi City port district, which was once the region’s melting pot of economic activity as Spanish trading galleons used to dock in it. Today, as a Special Economic Zone accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), it is opening doors for new investments—bringing in stores and brands that never found its way to this coastal city before. - See more at: http://wowlegazpi.com/embarcadero/#sthash.q8pF9Eqf.dpuf

In February 1, 1814, Mt. Mayon began its most violent and deadly eruption to date. During the eruption, some 1,200 people took refuge in the stone church of Cagsawa. Unfortunately, all perished when lahar and pyroclastic flows engulfed the church. Only the belfry of the Cagsawa church remains as a grim and silent reminder of that fateful day. For almost two hundred years, it has withstood the test of time and the elements to become one of the most recognizable landmarks of Albay Province. The ruins is protected and maintained by the municipal government of Daraga and the National Museum of the Philippines, are one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area. The Kawa-Kawa Hill is a 236 meter land form whose name is derived from its curious shape resembling a ‘kawa’ or cauldron. From afar, Kawa-Kawa may seem as ordinary as any other hill, but from its summit, one can see its unique feature in its full glory – an amphitheater-like six-hectare crater. Because of this peculiar characteristic, it is also called ‘the hill without a hilltop’. Today, the Kawa-Kawa Hill is now one of Albay’s tourist destinations. It offers a stunning 360 degree view of Ligao City and neighboring towns, as well as sprawling green fields and nearby Mts. Masaraga and Mt. Mayon. The hill is also famous as a religious destination because of the larger than life Stations of the Cross lining the 500-meter path to the crater and extending all the way around the crater’s 836-meter rim. During the Lenten Season, devotees flock to Kawa-Kawa to reflect and meditate on the Stations of the Cross as penance. - See more at: http://wowlegazpi.com/kawa-kawa-hill-in-ligao-city/#sthash.c1vvVPDY.dpuf

The ‘boiling lake’ of Nag-Aso in the town of Manito is a 3-hectare lake fed by a hot spring that has a temperature that can reach 100° Celsius, hot enough to boil eggs within 10 minutes. It is located in the boundary of Barangay Balabagon and Hulugan, nestled between a ridge and the Albay Gulf. The name comes from the Bicolano word, which means ‘steaming’ or ‘smoking’. Because of the extreme temperatures of the lake, its heat is used to help power a 160-MW geothermal plant. During high tide, the lake is submerged by seawater from the Albay Gulf, but the bubbling, boiling water is still visible. - See more at: http://wowlegazpi.com/nag-aso-boiling-lake-manito/#sthash.SChm6myC.dpuf

Located on the eastern side of the Mayon Volcano, 2,700 feet from sea level, the Mayon Skyline View Deck recreational area has a grand panoramic views of Albay and the Pacific Ocean, nearby towns and lakes, Curangon Shoal, San Miguel Island, and Mount Malinao (another volcano within the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire). It is a favourite picnic site among locals, especially during summer, due to its cool weather, fresh mountain air and relaxing views. Adjacent to the park’s multi-purpose hall is Mayon Planetarium and Science Park where photo exhibits and documentaries about volcanoes are shown. It has become one of the top destinations in Albay and is the best place to go to get up close and personal with the beautiful but dangerous volcano.

Climbing up to the summit of the Philippines’s most active volcano is truly an experience of a lifetime. Climbing up to the level close to the summit or an area commonly referred to as the knife’s edge is for the intermediate-expert climber or for one who is very fit. It normally takes two days and one night to reach the summit and it is essential that one have a competent and knowledgeable local guide. For the outdoor enthusiasts interested in day treks, one highly recommended trek is the Camp 1 site - a four hour climb going up under a normal pace. Located roughly 780 meters from sea level and situated beside a relatively dry waterfall bed, this site offers spectacular views of the countryside and ocean below. The journey to the site will take you through some intensely varying and beautiful terrain including a lahar flow gulley, light Agoho Pine forests, heavily covered giant fern forests, and Kugon grassland. - See more at: http://wowlegazpi.com/climbing-up-to-mayons-camp-1/#sthash.i7ZlpzWD.dpuf

The undulating hills can be considered one of Albay’s hidden geological gem. It is hidden in the sense that most Albayanos are not even aware of it before. But for visitors and locals who travel by plane to Legazpi, an impressive aerial view of these hills is one of the first things that welcomes them when the plane approaches Legazpi Domestic Airport. The hills are not as conical and symmetrical as the ones in Bohol, but they are remarkably similar in appearance and are probably of the same limestone composition. An added bonus is the view of Mayon as you hike to the top of two of these hills. - See more at: http://wowlegazpi.com/quitinday-green-hills-nature-park-camalig-2/#sthash.gww30XYJ.dpuf -

The placid water of the lake reflects Mayon Volcano in all its majestic splendour. Visitors could go bamboo rafting, kayaking or fishing for tilapia, catfish, mudfish and fresh water shrimp. Locally made handicrafts/furniture on the bamboo rafts is a nice touch. The water area of the lake measures seven hectares. It is located in Camalig town, just 4.5 kilometres away from the iconic Cagsawa Ruins.

Its name comes from Bicol word "hoyop" which means to blow which aptly describes the cool, soft, murmuring winds that blow through its labyrinthine passageways. Aside from its interesting stalactite and stalagmite formations, the cave is also a site where 4,000 years old potteries, human bones, beadwork and artefacts were unearthed.

Busay Falls is a popular day trip destination for local tourists on weekends especially during the hot summer months of March, April, and May. It is tucked away in a forested mountain at the quaint town of Malilipot in Albay. The seven-tiered falls are about 5 kilometers from Tabaco City proper, 20 kilometers north of Legaspi City and is easily accessible by both private and public transport. It is considered one of the highest waterfalls in the country descending in stages from a height of 250 meters cascading into seven small pools. The water plunges approximately 91 meters from its highest point, and the last 40-meter cascade drops to a small and shallow pool which is the most popular among the seven falls. - Read more at http://www.nsobicol.com/albay-tourism-stat/malilipot/malilipot.html
