Neighborhoods

Brewerytown is an exciting, dynamic, diverse community at the southern edge of North Philly, adjacent to the Art Museum Area and Center City. You will find all races, skin colors and numerous ethnicities and cultures here. We are located on a busy commercial street, with all of the city traffic, noise and gritty life you see in any big city, in addition to the extremely convenient public transportation, highways, public park and river access you will also see in major cities. If, however, you prefer a quiet, small town atmosphere or glistening towers, frankly, this is not the place for you. * PARKING – There is free street parking, 24x7, everywhere except on Girard Ave from 29th to 26th Streets. Free street parking on these blocks (including in front of the building) is between 6 PM and 10 AM M-Sat and all day Sunday. If you do park at paid times, it is generally cheap -- $1-2/hr, which you can pay by app. Just add the small fee every 2 hours electronically, from wherever you are. No need to feed meters. * PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION – There are 5 bus/trolley lines within a block of the building: #7, 15, 32, 48, 49. They can take you to all parts of the city or to transfer locations. * CAR TRAVEL – Girard Avenue is within easy reach of anywhere in Philly by car. It has entrance/exit ramps to the 2 major highways in Philly: Routes 76 (1/2 mile away) and I-95 (3 miles away). The Art Museum and Center City are only minutes away. City Line Avenue and the Main Line communities are only 10-15 minutes away. The one of the North’s tallest Civil War monuments is only 4-5 minutes away, just north of the Zoo (adjacent to Memorial Hall). * RESTAURANTS – There are popular Thai, Indian, burger and pizza places on the block and 3 popular cafes on the block. An Ethiopian restaurant is at 28th & Poplar St. (2 blocks away). Numerous other restaurants and drinking establishments are in the 2600 and 2700 blocks of Girard Ave. (< 2 blocks away). * THE PHILADELPHIA ZOO (the nation’s first zoo) – #15 trolley for 5 blocks: About a 7-minute walk down Girard Ave. Go left when you exit the building and walk 5 blocks westward on Girard Ave. to 34th Street. * THE PHILADELPHIA ART MUSEUM – #7/32/48/49 buses for 10 blocks: About a 10-minute walk, mostly along Fairmount Park. If you don't have GPS app with you, just do this: 1. Exit the building and walk 30 yards to the left (west) along Girard to 29th St. 2. Go left (south) along 29th Street to its end (at the park/Pennsylvania Avenue). 3. Walk left about 3 blocks until you see the park expand on your right. The Art Museum will be visible almost immediately to the right. 4. Walk about 2 blocks further along Pennsylvania Ave. and you will be in its shadow. You will need to go up the side road for garden views (about 1 block) or keep walking along Pennsylvania Ave. another block, then to the right for the front of the Museum or the famous Art Museum steps. * CENTER CITY/FRANKLIN INSTITUTE/MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY/BARNES FOUNDATION MUSEUM/WHOLE FOODS – #7/32/48/49 buses for 20 blocks: Walk to Art Museum using the above directions. Cross onto the scenic and historic Benjamin Franklin Parkway (literally based on the Champs-Élysées) in front of Art Museum steps. Walk along the Parkway to your destination.
