When in Tunis, you have to stop by Sidi Bousaid, accessible by train or taxi (as a tourist I recommend always using the Bolt app so you don’t get ripped off or lost). Called the Tunisian Santorini for its white houses and blue windows and doors, it is an enchanting place to visit. Stop by the bambalouni maker for a taste of the Tunisian donut, and get a mint tea or Citronnade on a café terrasse such as café des délices or Des Arts. A few art galleries are hidden in the neighborhood. Allow yourself to explore and get lost in the narrow streets.

Buy your fresh organic produce and fish from this historical market. Don’t be intimidated by the strong smells and busyness and the intense character of the merchants. It is all part of the charm. There you can ask for the century old bakery which makes the best bread in the country.

This place is literally around the corner of where you are staying. Their coffee is roasted on the premises and they have a mean selection of viennoiseries. Perfect for picking up your breakfast or for an afternoon break.

This is a favorite Tunisian specialty. You will eat like you would at someone’s house and everything is delicious. I personally recommend the Rice with octopus or the fish couscous.

To try delicious proper Tunisian cuisine and street food staples without worrying about quality and hygiene, I highly recommend this restaurant in La Marsa, itself a great part of town to visit. Have a brika, S’han tounsi, kaftaji or kabkabo stew but whatever you eat don’t count the calories ! Wash it all down with a sugary Boga Cidre for the ultimate local experience.

A must visit. This museum harbours one of the most impressive collection of Roman mosaics in the world. Learn about Tunisia’s history and all the civilisations it hosted from
Carthage to Rome to the Arab conquests and the Ottoman Empire.

Spa and nightlife
This luxurious hotel at the heart of the old Medina hides one of the best Spas and hammams in Tunis. You will regret not taking advantage of it. But if you are not really a spa person go to Dar El Jeld anyway, preferably by sunset, and make your way up to its rooftop for a drink and a fabulous dinner. Before you make your way up there, pretend you don’t know what an elevator is and take a look around its few floors. Beautiful decor that is picture worthy !

Habibi is part of a collection of hip bars that form sort of an adult theme park. That is where you get a real taste of Tunis night life. Hop from bar to bar to experience their different vibes and music. It is a must do in the summer.
