FLORENCE – A SHORT 3-DAY TOUR Ciao a tutti! If I were in Florence for 3 days, this is what I’d plan to do. But, believe me, it’s hard to stick to one’s own plan, unless you advisably manage to book your favourite visits in advance. Day 1 I’d book a visit of the Duomo in advance, better in the morning because it’s quite tough to go up. I’d visit Battistero (older than Duomo!), Chiesa di Orsanmichele (free entrance – read its story), Loggia del Porcellino. I’d have an icecream at “Perché no?” or a coffe at Chiaroscuro on Via del Corso. Maybe try to get into beautiful Palazzo Davanzati (one of my favourite) and give a quick look at via Tornabuoni (luxory shops). I would maybe eat inside “Mercato Centrale”(it was the old food market – now you get many stands with different types of food), it’s good but always busy. If there is some more time, I’d go to Basilica di San Lorenzo or Cappelle Medicee. I would then feel like enjoying a huge T-bone steak for dinner. “13 Gobbi” Restaurant or “Antica Trattoria da Tito” on via S. Gallo (it’s a messy Tuscan Trattoria, you have to walk a bit but it’s nice and typical cuisine). If you don’t fancy meat, maybe try “Quinoa”, very close to our place. Day 2 First thing in the morning Galleria degli Uffizi (booked in advance). It will take the whole morning. Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia with the statues. “Antico vinaino” on via de’ Neri is very well known for their huge and superstuffed panini, but usually the queue is really too long. “La Vetreria” is a nice place to sit and eat well (average prices). Later I’d take a bus to Piazzale Michelangiolo (n. 13, get tickets), a terrace overlooking Florence. Touristic but wow. Don’t forget to climb up to give a look at San Miniato Church, turn around and look down. I’d rather not eat up there. I’d you walk down from there and stroll through the trendy San Niccolò area and finally enjoy an incredible sunset on the river… Day 3 Loggia del Porcellino, then walk to the “Oltrarno” (= beyond Arno) crossing Ponte Vecchio. Visit Palazzo Pitti – there are 5 different small museums inside. I would choose one. Boboli’s gardens are beautiful in good weather. Chiesa di S. Spirito. Also enjoy the beautiful square (there is often a local market) and I would get something to eat there. Get back on via Maggio (shops with antiques) or reach out to Gelateria la Carraia, one of the best in town. Always avoid icecream shops with colorful mountains of icecreams. Handmade healthy icecream always melts quickly, so you can easily tell the difference! I know this is quite a lot for 3 days and there is so much more out there… But, to be honest, I’m a Florentine but I have neved had the time to intensely enjoy all these beauties because of my job. So, please forgive my urgency and enthusiasm: simply enjoy the atmosphere!

Florence areas

In Florence different areas have specific characteristics. Choose what you're more likely to love best!
This is a trendy area, with nice cafes and little shops. From here you can walk up to Forte Belvedere.

It's a nice area very close to the Duomo. There is a flea market (leather). There are good restaurants (for ex. La Menagerie or Mercato Centrale). San Lorenzo is an important historical church.

San Frediano was previously a strictly handicraft area. Now it is incredibly lively and has so many good typical trattoria. See San Frediano Church and Santa Maria del Carmine.

This road and this area between SMN station and river Arno is still a proper handicraft area. Walking around there are leather shops, fresh pasta shops, china repair, brass shop. Nothing really touristic, but maybe real common life.

This Osteria is on piazza dell'Olio. I know them since I was... younger! They cook very well and it is about "express cuisine", meaning that they don't put frozen food in the microwave and serve it! They cook proper food with good ingredients. Their prices are not so good? Ok, tell them you're staying at our apartment and that I recommended their place.

This small cafe on via Brunelleschi (more or less in front of Pizzeria Sofia Loren) makes good cappuccino and has fresh pastry from a very good pasticceria in Florence. If you go there early in the morning you'll see their customers are mainly Italians working in the area, because they have non-touristic prices and non-defrost pastry! Maybe they don't speak good English...

I suggest to take a bus to Piazzale Michelangiolo, enjoy the place, walk up to San Miniato and then head to via San Leonardo and return to downtown. This is a quiet and elegant road. Old walls, beautiful villas, olive trees, birds. If you take a walk early in the morning it is so peaceful.

People go to Piazzale ever since. This place is always lively and crowded. I took this picture today, Sept 20. A lot of people from all over the world were seated on the stone stairs, like in a theater, looking at our town while the sunset light was changing colors into new ones. What a charming atmosphere there was!

We love Boboli, every Florentine has remembrances... but now it belongs to the world. Luckily enough we still have our Giardino delle Rose, a place out of time, unbeatable in every season. Terraces with lawns, plants and of course roses.

Wineries tour are nice but better choose the right one!

Many people love going to wineries, try wines etc. Please check carefully the Fattoria you're going to and how big is the group (if you go with an organized tour). I have friends who run farms with winery and olives grove. They have a long experience, they respect their land and their job. It isn't always so. So, watch out and choose carefully. Enjoy your trip!
Что взять с собой

Luggage

Don't bring everything with you! In Italy you can find (almost) everything. If it gets cold you can buy a jumper! Heavy luggage is a torture and our roads are pebbled...

The more you book the better!

It is advisable to book your visit of the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo) and also Uffizi Gallery in advance. Also check and book other possible attractions: don't waist your time in a queue. There is so much to see here!
