Rachel’s Lizard Peninsula (west coast side) Day Trip

Rachel’s Lizard Peninsula (west coast side) Day Trip

My south coast trip

Take your bathers and a towel, this trip has heritage centres, great food, stunning coastal walks (if you want them) and lots of swimming opportunities. Pick the bits you fancy. This trip can be done in either direction and if you want to walk over to the mount it is worth checking tide times to see which way round to do the trip
28 miles approx. 1 hr drive from No' 54 A great start point for a day tour of the westerly side of the Lizard Peninsula. Lizard Lighthouse is the UK's most southerly point and has a great heritage centre and views. If you are fit and able, I would advise parking in Lizard village and walking down (approx 15-20 min) but there is a car park right on the point on a single track road.

From the Lizard to Mullion Cove is approx. 7.2 miles and 20 min drive time A3083 and B3296 Two choices here; - park in the quarry car park and walk down to the harbour. A gorgeous spot and great photo opportunity - take the right fork by the quarry carpark signed to Mullion Cove Hotel. There is a small free carpark at the top of the cliffs with stunning views

If you fancy a pit stop and walk at Poldhu, park in the car park and walk up the road behind the beach cafe to the World Heritage Centre and monument for the first transatlantic transmission in 1901 This is quite a steep walk - grab an ice cream at the beach café on your way back!

Another beautiful beach and if this is where you fancy spending the day then it is probably worth taking the car to Gunwalloe from Poldhu By car 7.4 miles and a good 20 minute drive On my trip we just did a sight see of the view from the Poldhu headland. The beach is only about 10 minutes down the headland, there is a beach cafe and of course the beautiful beach side church. Also next to Dollar Cove - try your luck finding the silver dollar coins said to be wrecked there in the 17th Century!
