A stunning beach, often busy, with a cash only food van at the car park. There is some great climbing nearby - look up Dunmore Head and Finbar's Wall in your climbing guide or on the Colmcille Climbers site (local climbing group): https://colmcille-climbers.com/

There is a viewpoint about 5km up from Malin on the R242, en route to Five Fingers Strand: picnic benches and a ramp into the water. It is well worth stopping, and easy to walk there from the flat.

Lovely natural, sweeping sandy beach at the mouth of the bay. Look to the north to see the 5 rock fingers sticking out, and listen to the Atlantic waves crashing in. It is walkable from the flat - probably 20-30 minutes each way depending on your speed - and a coffee van has popped up (we haven't tried it yet).

Lovely easy 2km walk from the car park to the waterfall that is very accessible (pushchair and wheelchair friendly). Sometimes a little busy, worth coming earlier or later in the day.

Stunning beach with golden sand that gets full sunlight in the afternoon (a little dark in the morning). It has a steep hill up and down, you'll need a good car and or good nerves. Where Armada ship La Trinidad Valencera was wrecked in 1588.

Local artists Ros Harvey and Tim Stampton have a little gallery overlooking the bay with locally inspired large water colours, lithographic prints, hand bound books and sculptures.

Lovely beach by Shroove Lighthouse. There is now a coffee van there but we haven't tried it. If it is busy (on a bank holiday or sunny day it may well be), there is a hidden pebble beach surrounded by cliffs which is a 20 minute walk and often deserted, and is magical. You enter via a stone archway. Ask us about it and we will provide directions.

The penninsula's highest mountain at 615m. It is off the beaten track: you'll need good hiking boots, gators and coats. Views of the penninsula from the top are worth it, but be sure to check the weather. https://www.inishview.com/activity/slieve-snaght/

Just across the bay is the Isle of Doagh, with the famous Famine Village. If that's not for you, there is a beautiful beach that, at low tide, feels only a short breath away from Five Fingers Strand. Check out Carrickabraghy Castle while you're there, or head to Ballyliffen (https://carrickabraghycastle.com/).

Golfers will already know everything there is to know about this! Links course, dramatic views, and a driving range. Buggies should you need, and food/drinks in the club afterwards. Vital to book.

Food scene

World's Best Chowder! A lovely welcoming restaurant with great food (whether a steak sandwich, sweet potato fries, pancakes or cake). Be sure to book because they're often busy. Very good at catering to gluten free. Afterwards take a walk on along Pollan Bay, a few minutes drive away: https://www.thewildatlanticway.com/waw/pollan-bay/

Lovely cafe with absolutely deadly gluten free brownies (and good almond croissants too - not gluten free!).

While you're popping into SuperValu for your shopping be sure to grab a coffee and some lunch here. The sweet treats are probably the best in Carndonagh... Often busy, so worth coming earlier if you want to stay and eat in.

Little food van between Malin and Carndonagh, which has become a local favourite. Really friendly, nice spot at the start of the bay. They are only there Thursday-Sunday, and they do toasted sandwiches, homemade cakes (and ice cream, and the usual suspects). Good gluten free options.

New place started by the man behind Nancy's Barn, so expect the same good quality food, coffee, and rumour has it they are now selling wine... Outdoor seating area, not in as a great a location as Nancy's Barn but great for a stop off, or if just going around Carndonagh.
