Our good friend, Rosie, runs this incredible little bakery in Woodstock. If you're in the mood for a unique breakfast they serve stuffed bagels on the weekends but if sweets are what you're after, we suggest trying any one of their amazing treats. You won't find a better chocolate chip cookie and the cold brew is great too!

They cater to most dietary needs including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, organic and good old fashion meat eaters. With fresh ingredients and local produce, the menu is a constant flow of new ideas and creative classics. We recommend the classic "Hot Bird" sandwich!

This is the home to our favorite burger in the area. It is a small spot with a lot of personality and to die for burgers and fries. They typically don't deliver but made an exception and delivered to me at the hospital after I gave birth to our baby girl! They are kind people who know how to serve up a delicious patty!

Home to our favorite chocolate croissant! Breads include Upstate Levain (a half white/half whole wheat peasant loaf), classic sourdough, and a sourdough baguette. There’s also a “Daily Lab Loaf” and Saturday’s is Ancient Grain, a rotating loaf made with ancient grains like Einkorn Wheat, one of the world’s oldest. All are available to go, as are housemade cocktails, local smoked salmon, and other provisions.

Stop by this Kingston eatery for Italian-inspired bites on the patio. Standouts include the brisket pizza with caramelized shallots and smoked brisket or the Fun Guy, a pie topped with ricotta, provolone, fontina, mozzarella, and mushrooms. The cocktails here are equally delectable.

This Rondout waterfront hotspot is a destination for barbecue and comfort food classics. On the patio overlooking the Rondout Creek, feast on some of the best fried chicken in the Valley. The sides, such as Mexican sweet corn, and Southern-style cocktails like sparkling white peach sangria and bourbon peach smashes among the top seasonal picks, are equally as tasty.

Get outside!

This is one of our favorite hikes about 40 minutes away from the cabin. It is great for all skill levels because it is short and not overly difficult. There are some steep sections that will get your heart pumping, though, and a stunning payoff is waiting for you at the end. From the trailhead, follow the blue blazes up the hill. After a short while, keep your eyes peeled for a trail sign. It's hard to miss, but you will want to follow the Yellow Trail sign to the right and not the blue blazed trail which heads straight. Follow the yellow blazes all the way up to the top. When you reach Huckleberry Point, you will know it right away. While admiring these beautiful views, you will see the Catskills on your right, and to the left you can see the Hudson River in the distance. On this hike you will experience streams, varied sections of pine trees, and at times some short, steep ascents. If you go on a rainy day, be aware that the streams may be difficult to pass. This is a great hike for families. If you go during the right season, at the summit you will find (and smell) huckleberry bushes. Because of this, bears have been known to visit. Before heading out, it might be worth brushing up on your bear safety here. Encountering a bear is very unlikely, and in the Catskills it would never be a grizzly - but better safe than sorry!

Onteora Lake is the local swim spot. It is a small, narrow waterbody that has great access and good fishing opportunities. It is really popular with folks that like to kayak and have a small boat for fishing. There is also a great loop trail that weaves through the Bluestone Wild Forest around the lake. This is one of our favorite and close by spots for a day hike (10 minutes away from the cabin).

The Colony is a restored 1929 theater featuring diverse music acts plus comedy & art events in an intimate setting. This is our favorite spot to see live music. It's got a great old school vibe and the food is surprisingly good. You can play a game of pool, get a drink, watch some music, and there's even a beer garden to see live music outside.

Towns to visit

Hudson is a staple for all antique-goers, as there is an unbeatable array of mid-century-modern shops as well as dozens of other antique shops lining the main street. Though don’t expect to find deals in these carefully curated stores. If you are happy to spend a little extra or are just looking for inspiration, stop by Red Chair on Warren, which is known for its mix of French, Swedish, and Belgian finds. Down the road is Finch, another must-see, perfectly curated vintage and modern furniture shop. And last but not least, put Cottage Treasures on your list, as the giant warehouse is filled with a wide assortment of vintage items from ceramics to architectural salvage.
