Custer state park is our favorite area of the Hills. Visit Sylvan Lake, drive the wildlife loop, hike Black Elk peak or Cathedral Spires trails, drive the needles highway and dine at any of the historic lodges. Promise you will love this gem of a state park!

Take a short hike to Roughlock falls, stop for breakfast or lunch at Cheyenne Crossing. Venture into Spearfish for great pizza at dough traders, ice cream at Leon’s or wine at Belle Jolie.

There will be a wait, but it’s such a treat, one of our favorite places to eat.

Hill City is a lovely 25 minute drive. You’ll drive past Pactola Lake. Stop and enjoy the overlooks along the way. Stop for wine tasting at Prairie Berry winery and brewery along the way, a local favorite! Enjoy the unique shops along Main Street and of course lunch or dinner at the Alpine Inn is a must! There will be a wait, but it’s such a treat, one of our favorite places to eat.
Try your luck at slots or cards at historic Deadwood. It’s always a fun outing and so much good old fashioned old west history there.

Mickelson trail is a beautiful scenic rail trail that winds through the hills. Hill city has several bike shops than rent bikes to use. Also other areas to bike it that we love are Mystic and Rochford trail heads to see tunnels and tressel bridges.

Rapid City is the largest city in the area. Lots of great local dining options. Some of our favorites are; Firehouse Brewing Co, Minervas, Talleys, Colonial House, Thai Thai, Jambonz, Sabatinos, and Que Pasa. We have many local breweries as well: Lost Cabin, Haycamps, Dakota Point, Zyrmacracies are a few good options. Dinosaur hill has nice views, Chapel in the Hills and Canyon Lake are close and beautiful little stops. Fun local shopping in the downtown Main Street square area. Harriet and Oak, The Beanery and Essence of coffee are fun local coffee shops.
