Originally called Alaskaland this park was built to celebrate the centennial of the purchase of Alaska from Russia. A lot of the original cabins from around Fairbanks were moved here and re-purposed as tourist shops. There is a historic riverboat and a Salmon Bake during the summer.

Sightseeing

The Trans-Alaska Pipeline is often buried but, due to permafrost, is raised above ground in some areas. One of those areas is just north of town in the community of Fox.

An open pit gold mine operating just past the historic mining community of Chatanika. They used to have site tours but I believe those may have been discontinued. 🙁 But if the tours are open they are either free or inexpensive and worth the drive.

A site near Fairbanks that provides guided aurora viewing tours. * Previous guests have said they enjoyed Aurora Pointe but I haven't visited this location so I cannot personally recommend it yet.

I haven’t been to this site myself but it attracts ice artists from around the world to compete. Dates are in February.
